I don't know verbatim what Barack Obama will say tonight. Something about...
Staying the course
Righting the ship
Being a steadfast and brave nation in troubled times
But times are still troubled. The millions of screaming supporters told me for a year and a half that even if things weren't actually better, they would feel better, and I suppose that for some, things do feel better. I understand that some will simply rejoice internally that at least the President of the United States isn't some white man-some red-faced man who doesn't look like most of the people we know, only he looks like our boss or landlord or parole officer.
I kid, but I'm serious.
Alright, so the President is black, Young Jeezy's rented Lamborghini is blue, and no one's pockets are really, really green. But in the first month of Barack Obama's presidency, the prophecies of the wise, old John McCain have come true:
Government is huge (there have been three congressional probes and hearings in the first month, Steroids, Peanuts, and a talk with the crew of US Airways flight 1549). And it seems that for as long as Obama is President, it will take a drawn out hearing to bring justice to any problem that Congress and the House of Representatives can't foul up and filibuster themselves.
The war is not only still going on, it's spreading. Now, there was never a timeline given for stopping all of this madness, but for those of you who read real newspapers and magazines and not publications that analyze a celebrity's outfit and teach the reader to find the same look at a lower price (so you can live someone else's life and dress like them), we are in Pakistan now. So were are occupying or at war with or chillin' in THREE countries as we speak. We are still chasing enemies we don't see, and I implore you to grab a random person on the street to ask them why this is all happening.
and money is terrible...
Now before you say, "no Michael, money is just terrible for you..." listen to me, money is terrible. Money and business and housing are terrible. Entire industries are losing money. What happens when WHOLE industries lose money is that we as Americans and capitalists search for the areas that are making money. When that is happening on a large scale, and less and less people are finding that area or pocket that is flourishing, there becomes no reason for the true creative minds to operate, because structures dominate the country. There is more "this is safe and I will make money and you will work for me" and offices, and rat mazes. There is nowhere to go but into the debt of student loans, the greater debt of good living after you're an underachieving professional, and nowhere for the others to go but to work for those people.
And tonight, Obama is going to sit in front of us like Franklin Roosevelt and tell us that all of this is still happening for a reason. That the decisions will be finally made even with the incessant and tedious processes that have been taken in a month to make one or two decisions.
He will sell us his New Deal
There will be much talk of accountability and perseverance. We will be fed something we both can and can not understand. Many will disagree. Many others will feel misrepresented. If someone else is with you as you watch, they may comment on his good looks.
Ooooohhhhh no! Don't be discouraged. You must stay the course and fight the fight. We must always be ready to shake a firm finger at those who wish to do us harm. We must continue to understand our mistakes and have unwavering judgment in troubled times. And American people, you have to believe in the American spirit and yeah and ok and are you serious?
Tell us the truth Mr. Obama.
Tell us about:
OVERPOPULATION
the national deficit
education
advancement
the stock market
credit
immigration
discrimination
privacy
and all of the other things that are really important.
Even if no one wants to hear. Force feed it to them. Put it on every channel so that no one can switch to VH1 when you're getting too heavy for them. Stop truncating your speeches. It's becoming a shame that you took a year and a half to fill us with fluff, and you can't take that same time to deflate us and fill us with reality.

Your honesty and sarcasm makes your blogs enjoyable.
Like reading one of the back page of NewsWeek.
I must have a moment of truth and say that, I am one of those that doesn't pick up a 'real newspaper" and skims through the political section in anticipation to read page 6, so I can find the steal on the outfit that Kate Hudson had on last week, I am one of those that surf the channels in the middle of important political speech.
I do like how you point this things out, in way that makes me realize that I do it, and perhaps I shouldn't, but I don't feel as if you are putting... us.. down. You do it in a way that makes me laugh.
His ( President Obama's) enthusiasm is what a lot of Americans need, he spoke about his plan to make our wallets greener, he spoke about immigration & education, now just do what you said and keep on smiling and making us feel better. Sure that's not what all Americans want, but I don't want to dwell on the negatives, and have to hear how bad this country is doing, I know this every time I wake up and head to Subway to substitute two of my meals with a 6' cold sandwich.
I have fully heard, and finished many of his speech, and I have to say that I like how he does it, he speaks about the problems enough to make us realize it, but not enough to add to our depression. To me he does speak the truth.
